MIRLIN Instrument Images(Click on images to see expanded versions.)The gold cylinder is the dewar - essentially the camera head that contains the detector, the camera optics, and the filters. It is cooled with liquid helium and liquid nitrogen. The silver box either immediately to its "right" (at Palomar) or underneath it (at Keck) are the detector control electronics. The general instrument control electronics are located in the large white cabinet at Palomar, and on the platform below and to the left of the dewar at Keck. Pictures from Palomar: Here are a few from Keck: For questions about this page please contact: Dr. Michael Ressler (Michael.E.Ressler@jpl.nasa.gov) |
